I have two Harken Hoister systems, each rated to 90 lbs. The first I attached to exposed joists without any difficulty and was satisfied with the performance in handling my Bell canoe, which weighs only 32 lbs. I experienced minor difficulty with the second system when one of the wood screws broke off in the rope distributor and damaged one of the small wheels therein. I called Harken to inquire about the possibility of a replacement, but reached their voicemail system as it was a Saturday afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised when Rick from Harken called me back before nine o'clock Monday morning and offered to send a new rope distributor kit (screws, wheels and mounting plates) free of charge. This kit showed up in my mailbox the following Thursday and I was able to complete the installation without further difficulty. This second system aptly manages my 72 lb Mad River Explorer. I'm very pleased with Harken's product and their customer service. This is a great system if you want to free up space and manage your boat in an efficient manner. I would without hesitation recommend this solution to anyone looking for a garage-based canoe or kayak storage system.
